Just like the name "Digital Manufacturing" goes, I was right to expect coursework in that light.
Carl Diver who is teaching the course, Peter Gough, Gary Dougill, and Aris Alexoulis all of whom are lecturers at the Manchester Metropolitan University where I study and who with their different knowledge and experience in different aspects of digital manufacturing will introduce and enrich my understanding in the world of digital manufacturing.
Now about that coursework, I mentioned earlier, a scenario of a mobile phone manufacturing company, Phones-R-Us encountering a disruption in its supply chain.
With this disruption, Phones-R-Us outsourced to suppliers who will be able to supply 30,000 pieces of its phone top casing with a Budget of £100,000.

"So where does Obiefuna come in?" you may wonder, well I am going to beat other suppliers to being the supplier for Phones-R-Us's top phone casing. So how would I go about this? To be honest I really do not know at the moment but I reckon with the guidance of the lectures and my due diligence I will succeed.
As part of the course work, I have been supplied with a 2D drawing of the Phones-R-Us's top phone casing showing the dimension that I will use to create a 3D CAD(Computer-Aided- Design) model of it Fusion 360, a CAD software.

With a model created I will be 3D printing the model using 3D printers at Printcity MMU. Yes! Printers, not just one. Printcity is home to about 60 to 70 printers comprising Ultimakers, Form Labs, Markforged, Prusa, Creality and a concrete printer called Vertico all of which act and works differently.
I really do hope I have a go at all of them. However, I am confident I would be using the Ultimakers and the Formlabs. ul-TI-MA-ker, it does sound pretty cool to pronounce too.
Also, I will have the opportunity to use post-printing tools like the Datron CNC Machine to improve the aesthetics of the print. at the moment I think making my print pretty would be the last of my worries as I have to ensure its modular dimensions are accurate to ensure they fit with Phones-R-Us parts.
Would this coursework kickstart a new career choice? I guess only time will tell.
Oh! next up is my Print City induction I'm really thrilled to walk you through that.
